YubiKey 4 - The functions at a glance
YubiKey 4 USB token works instantly with Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X, Chrome OS and Linux as well as all major browsers without any additional drivers.
The USB-token already supports many different authentication protocols and services. These include YubiCo OTP, OpenPGP, FIDO U2F (Universal Second Factor), PIV smartcard, OATH, code signing and challenge response procedures. YubiKey 4 can even run multiple protocols simultaneously and can therefore be used for an almost unlimited number of services. This effectively secures the login to popular services and cloud applications such as G-Suite, Dropbox, Last Pass, Salesforce and others. All encryption keys are protected with hardware-based Secure Elements.

Further advantages
With YubiKey USB token a secure authentication is possible. It is not necessary to enter OTP, passcodes or passwords again. Thus the USB token replaces traditional Hardwaretokens, SMS passcode procedures and apps for authentication. Depending on the application, the USB tokens are recognized as USB keyboard (group HID = Human Interface Devices), smart card or smart card reader without additional software or drivers.
The YubiKey technology is integrated into the desired applications within minutes using free open source server software. The manufacturer Yubico produces the USB tokens almost exclusively in Sweden. They are already integrated into many solutions for secure authentication or password management, login and access protection for remote maintenance or VPN, FIDO U2F login, content management systems (CMS) and well-known online services.
